Week 2 here at SoFlaSports and as we try to build on our fledgling traditions we first want to say thank you to those who have supported us in our early stages of development. Here is this week’s Local Sports Tuesday segment:

Local Sports Tuesday

College Football is in the midst of spring practice and still months away but if I told you I didn’t think about it everyday then I’d be a liar, and I’m no liar! So, again, without further ado…

There are two young guys at the University of Florida with double SoFla ties. For one, both went to a Florida high school and secondly and probably of more interest, both were heavily recruited by the University of Miami and UF. Luckily for me and my Gators both chose UF. Speedy WR Deonte Thompson (recruitig c/o 2007 ) out of Glades Central HS in Belle Glade, FL and big 5 star OL Matt Patchan (c/o 2008) out of Armwood High in Seffner, FL are two future NCAA studs that figure to make a huge impact in Gainesville over the next few years.

Thompson was slightly frustrated with his limited playing time last year and the transfer [to Miami] rumors were flying around like crazy. After some reassurance from head coach Urban Meyer, Downtown Thompson is fully on board and ready for a big 2008. According to Bob Redman at gatorcountry.com, Deonte has been “a machine, and a fast one at that. He could not be stopped.” I cant wait to see this guy become a star all over the SECs face!!

As for the true freshman, early enrollee, Patchan is still a bit too raw and skinny to play serious minutes at OL in the SEC (or probably anywhere in D1 for now). But the kid is so talented and versatile that the coaches have moved him to the D-Line (for now) because it will get him on the field quicker. Coach Dan McCarney is ecstatic with the decision and believes that Patchan’s speed can be a huge asset to the Gators DL this year. As much as I want to see Matt pancaking defenders like a chef at IHOP, I’ll be more than glad to see him just touch The Swamp grounds this year.

I hate to brag but the gators are have nasty talent this year… hopefully the defense will pick up last years slack (good thing kyle jackson is gone) and major wright and will hill can do some serious safety damage this year.

can’t wait to beat Miami… let the shit talking begin

I don’t like the Gators but they are going to be sooooooo nasty. It’s unacceptable for them not to win a national championship this season that should be their goal and everything else is a failure. Nobody if the great state of Florida should beat these monsters
