Okay, so you know enough to look for the 128-bit encryption, right? Well, that’s a good start. Now check to see if you can find out whether the company has third-party audits.
This information is usually found in the same place on the online gambling site where you found the encryption information (try the “FAQs” or “Security/ Safety” pages from the menu). What you should be looking for is a testing company (the most common ones are eCOGRA and TST) that does regular audits to see if the gaming is carried out fairly.
Now of course this doesn’t really apply to ‘peer-to-peer’ gaming such as sportsbetting and poker, but these audits will tell you if random number-based games like online slots are really giving out random results. Plus, the ‘percentage payout’ reports will also tell you how much of the money that the online casino USA is taking actually is given back to the players!
Now, an obvious step would be to do a search on your potential website. This is a good idea, but with some serious caveats.
For one thing, many of the reviews that will come up in the search results will be advertisements, not totally objective reviews. Just like I get money when you click on one of the ads on my site, these sites get money for everyone that they send to the sites that they are ‘reviewing’. As you may guess, they tend to be less likely to point out any flaws or misgivings.
There is a flip side to that, however. If you find negative reviews, you may think that this is more realistic…but as you may have noticed, people are much more likely to post something on the ‘net when they’re unhappy. And people are made unhappy by things that may or may not be the fault of the online gambling site. If I had a dime for every complaint that turned out to be a simple case of not reading the Terms and Conditions, I’d have a buttload of dimes…
